FAQs

  • Our krauts are very different! First they’re crunchy, not slimy, and there is absolutely no vinegar in them. Second they are made from local ingredients and are not pasteurized, making them full of beneficial micro-organisms (probiotics). Which is why you’ll find them in the fridge not on the shelf!

We ferments in stainless steel tanks so our products never touch plastic. This is important because there is strong scientific evidence that acidic foods (sauerkraut and kimchi) are leaching unwanted chemicals when stored in plastic. That is also the reason why we pack in glass jars, despite the cost.

  • Consuming fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi offers numerous health benefits:

    - Improved gut health: These foods are rich in probiotics, promoting a balanced gut microbiome and aiding in digestion.

    - Enhanced immune function: Probiotics in sauerkraut and kimchi strengthen the immune system, reducing the risk of infections and allergies.

    - Increased nutrient absorption: Fermented foods can enhance the absorption of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, ensuring better overall health.

    - Reduced inflammation: The beneficial bacteria in these foods may help alleviate inflammation in the body, lowering the risk of chronic diseases.

    - Enhanced flavour and preservation: Fermentation not only adds depth of flavor but also acts as a natural preservative, extending the shelf life of the food.

  • YES! We stick to the highest standards of certification and quality control to ensure that our products are always safe, healthy, and beneficial. Our facility is CFIA licensed and inspected. Which means we are nationally certified and allowed to sell our products all over Canada.

  • The cool temperatures in your fridge keep the beneficial microbes from being too active which extends the krauts life. Think of it like yogurt (another lovely fermented food!) It’s ok to be packed in your lunch or on a picnic, but it should be kept cold.

  • While the prairies grow a lot of cabbage, we also grow a lot of mustard and canola. This mix makes it almost impossible to grow large amounts of organic cabbage. Also, did you know organic doesn’t mean ‘pesticide free’? In some cases organic farms can actually use more pesticides than other farms. Shocking I know. Instead, we KNOW our suppliers. We KNOW how they grow their veggies and we KNOW they would never grow anything they wouldn’t give their kids. Just good, wholesome, local produce ends up in our jars.
